Swallowed by the Sea

I can hardly believe it's been a few months since I last blogged, and apologies must be made for disappearing so abruptly.

I've been travelling along the coast, watching waves and soaking my feet in the sea. To be honest, it's been really refreshing being away from the computer. Now that I'm back, I haven't felt very much like blogging, so I'm thinking of taking a break for a little longer. I don't feel like I have much to say these days and there are so many things I need to sort out.

I didn't meant to make a such a gloomy sounding post, how are you all? I'm still reading all your lovely blogs. :)

Janfamily

Janfamily are a Danish art collective with a unique way of exploring daily life. Their book 'Plans For Other Days' is full of odd yet strangely comforting advice like "how to stop time" and "how not to do what you did yesterday". I wish I could find more information about them but they remain rather mysterious...

Musical and Apple-sweet

Lolita is such a classic, that it's hard to know where to begin with it. Nobody writes with quite the wit and playfulness of Vladimir Nabokov (English wasn't even his first language!) and if you don't feel too touchy about the subject, the book is certainly worth reading. I watched the Stanley Kubrick version of Lolita awhile ago but I think I prefer the newest version, directed by Adrian Lyne. It's quite an intense film, but so beautifully shot.

Rainy Day Women

After reading Amy's post, I'd say it's been a grey kind of day (there's been a lot of rain this week). Though I must admit, there's something nice about slow and lazy wet days, walking through the city with my coat wrapped around me and sipping hot drinks in cosy corners. Everything looks a little different and people become shadows, rushing through puddles on their way home.

Converted Into Houses

When you spend as much time in libraries as I do, you're bound to come across
something interesting now and again. Included was this amazing home which belonged to a designer who had converted their home from a cigar factory. Wonderful light and crammed full of plants...

Me Again

Lately: finger puppets, flowers on my desk, milkshakes, beautiful libraries and quiet rides on the train lost in thought (so much so that I almost miss my stop). Focusing on these little moments helps me stop worrying so much about work/assignments/the future. Also, I'm rather looking forward to Spring and feeling the sun on my bare arms again! How are you? :)

These Hands

I found these pictures I saved awhile ago in an old folder and had to share them. I can't seem to find the link anymore, does anybody know where they were posted or who took them? Either way, they're magic.

*Edit: The wonderful Rebecca has informed me that these pictures were taken by Buffy Hipsher. Unfortunately she doesn't have a site anymore. :(

Hayao

Howl's Moving Castle

My Neighbour Totoro

Princess Mononoke

Hayao Miyazaki is nothing short of a genius to me. His films are so completely unique, complex and beautiful. Not to mention the gentle humour and playfulness that works so well. My Neighbour Totoro never fails to help cheer me up.

On another note, I'm sorry if my posts are few and far between. I've got a few things going on at the moment and sadly blogging falls to the bottom of the list. I'm still reading as always. :)

Bianca Spender

I finally got round to scanning some pictures of fashion designer Bianca Spender's home (featured in a past copy of Russh of course). Her home feels so light, airy and natural. I especially love the wire horse sculpture and white orchids.

Miss Karina

The film festival is in town which means I've been spending alot of time in darkened rooms, staring at a screen. This year's special guest is Anna Karina who I was lucky enough to hear speak about some of her films. She still manages to stand out in a crowd in her bright red coat and juanty black hat.

Blooms

This weekend went so quickly with the film festival, breakfast in the park and new boots. How was yours? I guess Spring must be coming; snowdrops, daffodils and cherry blossoms everywhere I go. It's still cold enough for jumpers and hot tea, so I'm making the most of it.
