I seem to get the impression that many people either hate or love the films of Sofia Coppola. I've heard many criticisms that her films are more style than substance however I don't entirely agree. Personally, I enjoy the visual aspects of her film making and her subtle potrayals of young women (and pretty pastel cakes). She also has a wonderful ability to create certain moods within her films.

Personally, I love Sofia...she is one of my all time favourite directors. Her ability to capture little sensations and moments in such a visually gorgeous way makes her films such a treat to watch.

Your posts always have such a calming affect on me ... and I love Sofia. I think people assume that a fascination with surfaces and style equals superficiality and gloss, which is not always the case. If a film can make me feel with its surfaces, then it has intrinsic value for me.

A beautiful string of stills... I like your choices.

Well I'm a fan of her work. Her films are very uniquely hers, very sensuous and sensitive.

I've got to say her films are a feast to the eyes, and that's not a bad thing. Sometimes the deepest contents come in the form of images or sounds... Instead of being said outloud, they are transmited in a more intuitive way...

I love Sofia's movies. She's a master (mistress) in creating an atmosphere. And now that I think of it, she's the only director I own all major movies of on DVD (I usually don't bother buying movies as I rarely rewatch). So I guess I'm definitely on the "love" side :)

I've watched each of these three movies about a dozen times, but I've always felt Coppola's real talent was the ability to choose the most visually pleasing shots! Her movies always are a little bit on the slow side, which, luckily is my cup of tea!
