Au Revoir

A new year and semi-new shoes (hooray for the local op-shop and the kind old ladies who work there)! It was a quiet one for me spent with a big bowl of strawberries and a good friend. I don't tend to make many resolutions, just lists that keep growing and growing!

I'm going on a little trip (Hong Kong to be exact!) so I'll be disappearing for the next few weeks. I'll be giving my brain a much needed rest and I encourage you all to do the same! I hope it's not too late to wish you all a very special 2009. :)

Badlands

This is one of the last films I watched in 2008 and it was certainly a memorable one. Although there's a disturbing sense of detachment to the characters and their actions, I'd certainly agree that this is a beautiful film and amazing considering it was Terence Malick's first.

That Time of Year

Last minute present wrapping, apricot and white chocolate cookies, brown paper and dreaming of (extremely unlikely) snowflakes in sunny Melbourne weather. Also, an early Christmas present from someone deer (bad pun intended).

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas! Thank you all for reading this year, and in particular the lovely ladies whose comments always put a smile on my face (thank you Danica, Hila, Alice, Jimena, Mila, Katrina and Erica. Yikes, I hope I'm not forgetting anybody...please remind me if I am!) I'm off to the beachside for a few days now. What are your plans?

Last Minute Christmas Wishlist

I tried, but I just couldn't resist making a little Christmas wishlist.

A bunny rabbit light! For some reason this one from SKK Lighting keeps popping up on the net.

Hayao Miyazaki Collection box set
. This man is a complete genius. (I think I'll post about him soon!)

Comfy organic t-shirts from Belle & Dean and quirky jewellry from Digby & Iona.

A Yoshitomo Nara clock to help wake up my sleepyhead.

Lovely journals and notepaper from O-Check Design Graphics.

Other things I wouldn't say no to: delicious chai lattes, a walk with the snow crunching under foot, some sort of miracle shampoo to tame my wild hair, mountains of books and a one-way ticket to Kyoto to see the last of the Autumn leaves. Though I guess now I'm just being greedy. What are you wishing for this year?

Jane Campion

The other week I finally got to see 'Sweetie'- Jane Campion's first film. Her films always strike a chord with me, and are often a little disturbing or strange. 'Sweetie' was no exception. Jane Campion is probably most well known for her film 'The Piano' where she manages to create an entirely different and haunting world altogether.

Sweetie (1989):

The Piano (1993):

Apologies as always for the lack of posts. As far as weeks go, it's been a pretty terrible one for me (I'll spare you the depressing details) but I'm optimistic that things will get better soon. Hope you are all well and ready for some Christmas madness. :)

Aya Takano

"Aya Takano uses acrylic and diluted gouache paints to create fictional, erotic, and sullen images featuring thin, big-eyed Geisha girls– there’s a taste of sex, sadness, and the future all at once. "

Naive

The other day I found a wonderful little blog, 'Notes by Naive'. Plenty of photographs of cosy cafes, delicious meals and one girl's documentation of her travels and wanderings which are captured beautifully in small details and moments. Her latest post is on mouth-watering Chinatown cakes which makes me want to go out and buy one right this minute.
